THE PRAIRIE ECOLOGY BUS CENTER IN LAKEFIELD IS OFFERING SEVERAL PUBLIC PROGRAMS.  THE “TOTS AND PRE-SCHOOL” DAY PROGRAMS WILL BE HELD ON THE 1ST AND 3RD WEDNESDAYS OF EACH MONTH AT 10:00AM.  THE NEXT PROGRAM WILL BE THIS WEDNESDAY – “GOING ON A BEAR HUNT.”  AN ADULT IS REQUIRED TO STAY WITH CHILDREN DURING THE PROGRAM.  TO REGISTER, CALL THE BUS CENTER OFFICER AT 662-5064.
A PUBLIC MEETING ON THE NEEDS OF OLDER AMERICANS WILL BE HELD IN SLAYTON.   THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT 1:00 WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AT THE OFFICES OF THE MINNESOTA RIVER AREA AGENCY ON AGING.  THE EVENT IS OPEN TO LOCAL RESIDENTS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, CARE-GIVERS, ELECTED OFFICIALS, BUSINESS OWNERS, OR ANYONE WHO DEALS WITH OLDER PEOPLE.  FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL (507) 387-1256, EXTENSION 102. 
THE WINDOM AREA HOSPITAL HELD A BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING THIS WEEK.    THE SEPTEMBER FINANCIAL REPORT SHOWED A NET LOSS FOR THE MONTH OF ROUGHLY 63-THOUSAND-DOLLARS.  THE HOSPITAL IS STILL SHOWING A NET PROFIT THROUGH THE FIRST 5 MONTHS OF THE FISCAL YEAR.  IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE TAMMY HALL BREAST HEALTH WALK BROUGHT IN ROUGHLY 7-THOUSAND-DOLLARS.  10% OF THE TOTAL WILL BE DONATED TO CANCER RESEARCH; THE REST OF THE FUNDS WILL GO TO HELP CANCER PATIENTS.    
THE MT LAKE CITY COUNCIL HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK.   THE FIRST READING WAS HELD OF A FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT ORDINANCE.  INFORMATION WAS REVIEWED ON THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW DOLLAR GENERAL STORE ON WEST 3RD AVENUE.  THE COUNCIL AGREED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH A TAX ABATEMENT FOR THE SITE.  THERE WAS A REPORT ON THE 2017 CITY BUDGET.      
A MEETING OF THE WESTBROOK-WALNUT GROVE SCHOOL BOARD WAS HELD THIS WEEK.   THEY REVIEWED INFORMATION ON THE OPERATING LEVY REFERENDUM, BEING HELD NOVEMBER 7TH.  THE BOARD APPROVED A NEW TWO-YEAR MASTER TEACHERS’S CONTRACT.  THE INCREASE IN SALARY AND BENEFITS WILL AVERAGE 3.42-PERCENT PER YEAR.  THE BOARD ALSO APPROVED A WAGE INCREASE FOR THE SUPPORT STAFF AND SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS.
        
VOLUNTEERS ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP PEOPLE WITH THE MEDICARE OPEN-ENROLLMENT PERIOD.     THE AREA AGENCY ON AGING WILL ASSIST BENEFICIARIES WITH RESEARCHING AND ENROLLING IN MEDICARE PLANS FOR 2018.  VOLUNTEERS WILL BE AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT AT THE JACKSON PUBLIC LIBRARY THIS THURSDAY.  TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, CALL THE SENIOR LINKAGE LINE AT 1-800-333-2433. 
MORE AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVES ARE BEING HELD IN THE AREA.     ON THURSDAY, THERE WILL BE A BLOOD DRIVE AT THE AMERICAN LEGION HALL IN LAMBERTON.  THE HOURS WILL BE FROM 1:00 UNTIL 7:00.  ALL BLOOD TYPES ARE NEEDED.  TO DONATE BLOOD, YOU SHOULD WEIGH AT LEAST 110 POUNDS AND BE IN GOOD GENERAL HEALTH.  YOU WILL NEED TO SHOW IDENTIFICATION AT CHECK-IN.
