THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD MET LAST WEEK.    A NUMBER OF PERSONNEL ITEMS WERE HANDLED DURING THE CONSENT AGENDA.  A MEMO OF UNDERSTANDING ON INSURANCE COVERAGE WAS APPROVED WITH THE DISTRICT PARA-PROFESSIONALS.  THE BOARD HEARD AN UPDATE ON CHANGES IN ELECTION LAW.  THERE WAS A REPORT ON THE LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM BEING PROMOTED BY THE MINNESOTA RURAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION.  IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAS RECEIVED A GRANT TO FUND AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM.
WINDOM AREA HIGH SCHOOL IS PRESENTING A FALL MUSICAL.   “A CHRISTMAS STORY – THE MUSICAL” IS BASED ON THE POPULAR HOLIDAY MOVIE.  PERFORMANCES WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL LECTURE HALL AT 7:00 THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY EVENING, WITH A MATINEE AT 2:00 SATURDAY AFTERNOON.  THE SHOW IS DIRECTED BY RACHEL AXFORD AND EUGENE HANCHETT.  THE SHOW FOLLOWS THE PLOT OF THE MOVIE, ABOUT A YOUNG BOY, RALPHIE, AND HIS FAMILY AS THEY PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAYS.  MUSICAL NUMBERS WERE ADDED FOR THE STAGE VERSION. 
THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL HOLDS A SPECIAL MEETING TODAY.  A BUDGET WORKSHOP WILL BE HELD AT 7:30 THIS EVENING AT THE WINDOM CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.  THE WORKSHOP WILL FOCUS ON REQUESTS FROM THE VARIOUS CITY DEPARTMENTS FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS, WHICH TYPICALLY INVOLVE MAJOR EQUIPMENT PURCHASES OR BUILDING REPAIRS AND RENOVATION.  SOME OF THE PROJECTS MAY HAVE OTHER SOURCES OF FUNDING, INCLUDING GRANTS AND RESERVE FUNDS. 
THE WINDOM E-D-A HELD A BOARD MEETING THIS WEEK.   THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON A NEW SIGN TO MARKET THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE.   THE BOARD DISCUSSED THE EAST HIGHWAY 60 HOTEL PROJECT.  DETAILS ARE BEING FINALIZED ON A FINANCIAL PACKAGE, AND A FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT IS EXPECTED SOON.   SOME ‘GAP’ FINANCING FOR THE PROJECT COULD BE PROVIDED THROUGH A LOAN FROM THE REVOLVING LOAN FUND.  THE BOARD ALSO REVIEWED THE PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF A RETAIL SURVEY.    
A MEAT-CANNING PROGRAM IS BEING HELD IN MT LAKE.    THE MT LAKE AREA RELIEF COMMITTEE IS HOSTING THE MOBILE MEAT-CANNER ON BEHALF OF THE MENNONITE CENTRAL COMMITTEE.  MEAT WILL BE CANNED AND SENT TO PEOPLE IN NEED.  THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AT THE ELMENDORF CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY ON 600TH AVENUE.  VOLUNTEERS WILL HELP PACK MEAT INTO CANS, PASTE LABELS, AND PACK CANS INTO BOXES FOR SHIPPING.   MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED.  MEALS AND BEVERAGES WILL BE PROVIDED. 
MORE AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVES ARE BEING HELD IN THE AREA.    ON THURSDAY, A BLOOD DRIVE WILL BE HELD AT THE MT LAKE COMMUNITY CENTER FROM 1:30 UNTIL 6:30.   ALL BLOOD TYPES ARE NEEDED.  DONORS SHOULD BE AT LEAST 17-YEARS-OLD, OR 16 WITH PARENTAL PERMISSION.  YOU SHOULD WEIGH AT LEAST 110 POUNDS AND BE IN GOOD GENERAL HEALTH.  YOU WILL NEED TO SHOW IDENTIFICATION AT CHECK-IN.  MORE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ONLINE AT www.redcrossblood.org.
