A JUNIOR-HIGH KNOWLEDGE BOWL MEET WAS HELD MONDAY AT THE WINDOM AREA MIDDLE-SCHOOL.  THERE WERE 30 TEAMS FROM 10 AREA DISTRICTS, ALONG WITH TWO ALUMNI TEAMS.  THE TOP JUNIOR-HIGH TEAM WAS FROMMURRAY COUNTY CENTRAL.  THE MT LAKE ‘JADE’ TEAM WON A TIE-BREAKER FOR 2ND PLACE, WITH A TEAM FROM THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IN 3RD PLACE.  A TEAM FROM FULDA WAS 4TH, AND A TEAM FROM WESTBROOK-WALNUT GROVE WAS IN 5TH PLACE.  WINDOM’S TOP TEAM FINISHED IN 11TH PLACE. 
THE WINDOM CITY UTILITY COMMISSION MEETS AT 10:00 THIS MORNING AT THE WINDOM CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.    THE COMMISSION WILL REVIEW A PROPOSED WATER-PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH POET BIOREFINING.  THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON POSSIBLE CHANGES IN ELECTRIC RATES.  THE COMMISSION WILL REVIEW AN AGREEMENT FOR CONSULTING SERVICES WITH THE MINNESOTA MUNICIPAL UTILITIES ASSOCIATION.  THERE WILL BE AN UPDATE ON GENERATOR MAINTENANCE. 
THE WINDOM COMMUNITY-BASED TASK FORCE ON SCHOOL FACILITIES WILL MEET AT 6:00 TONIGHT IN ROOM #330 AT THE MIDDLE-HIGH SCHOOL.   THE TASK FORCE WILL REVIEW INFORMATION AND TRY TO BUILD A CONCENSUS FOR A RECOMMENDATION TO THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD.  THE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE TASK FORCE WILL BE USED TO HELP DEVELOP A PUBLIC OPINION SURVEY THAT WILL BE CONDUCTED IN JANUARY.  AT RECENT MEETINGS, THE TASK FORCE HAS STUDIES SPACE NEEDS AND OTHER ISSUES AT WINFAIR ELEMENTARY AND THE MIDDLE-HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING.  
THE ANNUAL “FESTIVAL OF TREES” DISPLAY OPENS THIS WEEK AT THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY MUSEUM IN WINDOM.    AN OPENING RECEPTION WILL BE HELD FROM 2:00 TO 4:00 FRIDAY AFTERNOON.  COFFEE AND TREATS WILL BE SERVED.  THE FESTIVAL OF TREES FEATURES SPECIALLY-DECORATED CHRISTMAS TREES THAT ARE SPONSORED BY LOCAL CIVIC GROUPS, ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS.  THERE ARE 19 TREES ON DISPLAY THIS YEAR.  PEOPLE MAY VOTE FOR THEIR FAVORITE TREE.  THE FESTIVAL WILL BE ON DISPLAY THROUGH DECEMBER 23RD.

A JACKSON MAN HAS REACHED A PLEA AGREEMENT ON MULTIPLE CHARGES OF THEFT AND BURGLARY.    49-YEAR-OLD DELANE HENDRICKS APPEARED IN MARTIN COUNTY DISTRICT COURT.  HE PLED GUILTY TO TWO COUNTS OF FELONY THEFT, AND THREE FELONY COUNTS OF BURGLARY IN THE 3RD DEGREE.  SEVERAL OTHER CHARGES WILL BE DISMISSED.  UNDER THE AGREEMENT, HENDRICKS WILL SERVE 30 MONTHS IN PRISON.  HENDRICKS IS CHARGED WITH STEALING FARM EQUIPMENT FROM DEALERSHIPS IN JACKSON, WINDOM, WORTHINGTON AND SIOUX FALLS.

THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD HELD A WORK-SESSION THIS WEEK.     THE BOARD APPROVED A REVISED BUDGET FOR THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR.  THE WINDOM COMMUNITY CENTER WAS ESTABLISHED AS THE POLLING PLACE FOR ANY SPECIAL ELECTIONS.  THERE WAS A REPORT ON THE “WORLD’S BEST WORK-FORCE” PROGRAM.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED THE CONTRACT FOR STUDENT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES; THE CURRENT CONTRACT WITH THE PALMER BUS COMPANY EXPIRES AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.  THE BOARD ALSO SCHEDULED A SPECIAL MEETING FOR NEXT WEEK.
