THE MT LAKE SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK.   THE DISTRICT AUDIT REPORT WAS PRESENTED.  IT SHOWED AN INCREASE IN THE FUND BALANCE.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE FROM THE BUILDING COMMITTEE.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE HIRING OF SEVERAL PARA-PROFESSIONALS.  THEY APPROVED PARTICIPATION IN A NEW INVESTMENT PROGRAM THROUGH UNITED PRAIRIE BANK.  MATT GOHR WAS APPOINTED AS THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE BUILDING COMMITTEE.  THERE WAS A REPORT ON THE UPCOMING SCHOOL DISTRICT SURVEY.
MT LAKE IS HOLDING TWO HOLIDAY-THEMED EVENTS ON FRIDAY.    CHRISTMAS AT THE VILLAGE WILL BE HELD AT 5:00 FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT HERITAGE VILLAGE.  THE BUILDINGS WILL BE DECORATED AND LIGHTED.  THERE WILL ALSO BE REFRESHMENTS, PULLED PORK SANDWICHES, WAGON RIDES, CRAFTS FOR KIDS, CAROLING AND PHOTOS WITH SANTA.   AT 8:00 FRIDAY NIGHT, AT THE MT LAKE CITY PARK, THERE WILL BE A LIGHTING CEREMONY FOR THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK DISPLAY, AND A DEDICATION FOR THE SNOWFLAKE GARDEN.
THE WINDOM STATE THEATRE IS OFFERING A SERIES OF FREE MATINEE MOVIES FOR CHILDREN DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON.     THE MERCHANT MATINEES WILL BE SHOWN AT 1:00 THIS FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, AND 1:00 EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY IN DECEMBER.  TICKETS FOR A FREE MOVIE MAY BE PICKED UP AT A PARTICIPATING BUSINESS.  PARENTS MAY DROP OFF THEIR CHILDREN FOR A FREE MOVIE, AND USE THE TIME TO COMPLETE THEIR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.  THIS WEEK, THEY WILL BE SHOWING “THE EMOJI MOVIE.” 
THE JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S RESERVE IS HOSTING THE 36TH ANNUAL PIONEERLAND GUN SHOW THIS WEEKEND AT THE NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY IN JACKSON.   HOURS ARE FROM 9:00 TO 5:00 ON SATURDAY AND 9:00 TO 3:00 ON SUNDAY.  THERE WILL BE VENDORS WITH NEW AND USED GUNS, KNIVES, HUNTING ACCESSORIES AND MORE.  CONCESSIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE.  AS PART OF THE SHOW, THERE WILL BE A GUN RAFFLE, WITH TICKETS FOR $5.  FIRST PRIZE IS AN AR-15 RIFLE.  THE RAFFLE DRAWING WILL BE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
“SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY” WILL BE OBSERVED THIS WEEK IN WINDOM.  THE WINDOM AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL KICK OFF THE DAY WITH A BREAKFAST.  THE SCRAMBLED EGG BREAKFAST BAR WILL BE SERVED FROM 7:00 TO 9:00AM AT THE PATIO VIEW CAFÉ AT THE WINDOM AREA HOSPITAL.  THE CHAMBER WILL BE HANDING OUT GRAB BAGS.  REGISTRATION WILL BE TAKEN FOR A PRIZE DRAWING FOR WINDOM CHAMBER BUCKS.  SANTA CLAUS WILL ARRIVE AT THE COURTHOUSE SQUARE AT 11:00 SATURDAY MORNING. 
  
THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK.   A PUBLIC HEARING WAS HELD ON ASSESSMENTS FOR THE 2017 STREET PROJECT.  THERE WAS ALSO A HEARING ON MISCELLANEOUS SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS.  THE BOARD APPROVED A BOND-REFINANCING TO SAVE MONEY THROUGH LOWER INTEREST RATES.  SOME RATE CHANGES WERE APPROVED FOR THE TELE-COMM DEPARTMENT.  A NEW SITE AGREEMENT WAS APPROVED FOR THE SENIOR DINING SITE.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON A PROPOSED REDEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT FOR THE EAST HIGHWAY 60 HOTEL PROJECT.
THE WESTBROOK-WALNUT GROVE SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK.  THE AUDIT REPORT WAS PRESENTED.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE HIRING OF SEVERAL PARA-PROFESSIONALS AND A PART-TIME SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR.  AN UPDATE WAS PROVIDED ON BOILER REPAIRS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL IN WESTBROOK.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED A PROPOSAL TO HAVE THE SUPERINTENDENT SHARE TIME WITH ANOTHER DISTRICT.  BOARD MEMBERS INDICATED THEY WOULD RATHER CONTINUE TO HAVE A FULL-TIME SUPERINTENDENT.
