THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WILL MEET AT 3:00 THIS AFTERNOON.    THE COUNTY SHERIFF WILL DISCUSS A COUNTY-WIDE RECORDS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.  THE LAND MANAGEMENT OFFICE WILL REVIEW A CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT APPLICATION FOR A WIND FARM.  THE COUNTY COORDINATOR WILL HAVE AN UPDATE ON UNION CONTRACTS WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.    THE BOARD WILL SET 2018 SALARIES AND PER-DIEM RATES FOR COUNTY BOARD MEMBERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS.  A PORTION OF THE MEETING WILL BE SPENT IN CLOSED SESSION TO CONSIDER OFFERS FOR THE PURCHASE OF REAL ESTATE.
A JACKSON MAN IS FACING CRIMINAL CHARGES FOLLOWING A RECENT FIRE AT FISH LAKE.   60-YEAR-OLD DAVID PETER WIENS HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH A FELONY COUNT OF GROSS NEGLIGENCE FOR CAUSING A FIRE RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE.  WIENS WAS REPORTEDLY BURNING TRASH AT FISH LAKE ON NOVEMBER 28TH.  THE FIRE SPREAD TO SOME LEAVES AND GRASS, DESTROYING A CAMPER AND MOTOR HOME, AND CAUSING OVER 100-THOUSAND-DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO A NEARBY CABIN.  WIENS DID NOT HAVE A BURNING PERMIT.    
THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL HELD A TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING THIS WEEK.   THE 2018 PROPERTY TAX LEVY IS PROJECTED AT JUST OVER 1.9-MILLION DOLLARS, WHICH WOULD BE AN INCREASE OF 5.75%.  THE CITY BUDGET PROJECTS A GENERAL FUND RESERVE OF JUST OVER 1.7-MILLION DOLLARS – OR 48% OF GENERAL FUND SPENDING.  THAT IS WITHIN THE GUIDELINES SET BY THE CITY COUNCIL.  DEBT SERVICE WILL INCREASE DUE TO PAYMENTS FOR THE EMERGENCY SERVICES FACILITY, THE ARENA PROJECT, AND THE PURCHASE OF A NEW MOTOR GRADER.
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD HOLDS A SPECIAL MEETING THIS EVENING.   THE TRUTH IN TAXATION HEARING WILL BE HELD AT 6:00 AT THE CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS.  A PRESENTATION WILL BE MADE ON THE DISTRICT BUDGET, AND THE PROPOSED 2018 PROPERTY TAX LEVY.  THE PROPOSED LEVY IS JUST OVER 2.8-MILLION DOLLARS, WHICH WOULD BE AN INCREASE OF 2.52% OVER THE CURRENT YEAR’S LEVY.  AFTER THE HEARING, THE SCHOOL BOARD MAY VOTE TO ADOPT THE 2018 PROPERTY TAX LEVY. 
THE FULDA CITY COUNCIL MET THIS WEEK.    THE TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING WAS HELD, WITH INFORMATION ON THE PROPOSED 2018 CITY BUDGET AND THE PROPERTY TAX LEVY.   THE FINAL LEVY AMOUNT WAS ADOPTED, WITH AN INCREASE OF 3% OVER THE CURRENT YEAR’S LEVY.  A NEW SITE-USE AGREEMENT WAS APPROVED FOR THE SENIOR DINING PROGRAM.  CIGARETTE AND TOBACCO LICENSES WERE APPROVED FOR RENEWAL.  SOME CHANGES WERE MADE IN THE 2018 CITY FEE SCHEDULE, INCULDING A CHANGE IN THE FEE FOR BUILDING PERMITS. 
THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS HOLDS A SPECIAL MEETING AT 6:00 TONIGHT AT THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN JACKSON.  THERE WILL BE A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED 2018 COUNTY BUDGET AND PROPERTY TAX LEVY.  THERE WILL BE A PRESENTATION BY THE COUNTY AUDITOR-TREASURER.  MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO COMMENT. 
THE 2017 SPRINGFIELD NATIVITY PAGEANT WILL BE PRESENTED THIS WEEK.    THE PAGEANT IS PRESENTED BY THE SPRINGFIELD AREA NATIVITY THEATRE ASSOCIATION.  PERFORMANCES WILL BE HELD AT 7:00 FRIDAY AND SATURDAY EVENING AT RIVERSIDE PARK IN SPRINGFIELD.  SEATING WILL BE IN THE NORTH BLEACHERS.  THIS IS AN OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE.  A VOLUNTEER CAST WILL RE-ENACT THE STORY OF THE FIRST CHRISTMAS.  THERE WILL BE A LIVE MANGER SCENE, SPECIAL LIGHTING AND MUSIC, AND A COMMUNITY CHORUS.  THE PAGEANT IS PRESENTED FREE OF CHARGE.
