THE WINDOM SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL HOLD A MEETING OF THE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE AT 4:30 THIS AFTERNOON IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM AT THE MIDDLE-HIGH SCHOOL. THE COMMITTEE WILL DISCUSS OPTIONS FOR A POSSIBLE BUILDING PROJECT. A SURVEY OF DISTRICT RESIDENTS WILL BE HELD IN JANUARY TO RECEIVE FEEDBACK ON SEVERAL PROPOSALS. THE BUILDINGS AND GROUND COMMITTEE WILL DISCUSS THE PROCESS THAT WOULD BE USED TO DETERMINE THE POSSIBLE LOCATION FOR A NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, IF THE PROJECT IS APPROVED BY DISTRICT VOTERS.
THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL IS PREPARING TO FILL SEVERAL KEY POSITIONS. WINDOM LIQUOR STORE MANAGER JOE AUDETTE HAS SUBMITTED HIS RESIGNATION, EFFECTIVE JANUARY 6TH. HE WILL BE STARTING A NEW JOB WITH THE CITY OF ELK RIVER. THE OPENING WILL BE ADVERTISED. THE COUNCIL ALSO APPOINTED A PANEL TO SCREEN CANDIDATES AND CONDUCT A FIRST ROUND OF INTERVIEWS WITH CANDIDATES FOR ELECTRIC UTILITY MANAGER AND STREET SUPERINTENDENT. THE CITY COULD HIRE TWO PEOPLE, OR HIRE ONE PERSON TO FILL BOTH POSITIONS.
THE RED ROCK CENTRAL SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK. THE TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING WAS HELD. THE BOARD CERTIFIED THE 2018 PROPERTY TAX LEVY, WITH A 12% INCREASE. THE BOARD APPROVED THE SALE OF THE R-R-C NET INTERNET SERVICE TO NEW ULM TEL-COM. RED ROCK CENTRAL STUDENTS WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE PROGRAM. THE R-R-C NET SERVICE HAS BEEN HOSTED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SINCE 1996. IT HAS CUSTOMERS IN STORDEN, JEFFERS, SANBORN, LAMBERTON, WESTBROOK AND WALNUT GROVE.
THE MT LAKE CITY COUNCIL HELD A REGULAR MEETING THIS WEEK. THE COUNCIL APPROVED A NEW 15-YEAR CABLE T-V FRANCHISE AGREEMENT WITH MEDIA-COM. THE STREET SUPERINTENDENT GAVE A REPORT ON RECENT PROJECTS. THE 2018 CITY BUDGET WAS ADOPTED. THE 2018 PROPERTY TAX LEVY WAS CERTIFIED, WITH A 3% INCREASE. QUOTES WERE REVIEWED AND BORSGARD CONSTRUCTION WAS HIRED FOR A REMODELING PROJECT AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. THE COUNCIL APPROVED RATES FOR WATER, SEWER AND ELECTRIC CUSTOMERS.
THE HERON LAKE-OKABENA SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK. THE BOARD CERTIFIED THE 2018 PROPERTY TAX LEVY, WHICH WILL SHOW A REDUCTION FROM THE CURRENT YEAR’S LEVY. THE BOARD APPROVED A FUND TRANSFER FROM THE GENERAL FUND TO THE COMMUNITY SERVICE FUND. A CONTRACT FOR COMPUTER SERVICES WAS APPROVED WITH THE SOUTHWEST-WEST CENTRAL SERVICE COOPERATIVE. THE BOARD DISCUSSED OPTIONS FOR POSSIBLE SPORTS-PAIRING AGREEMENTS WITH OTHER DISTRICTS.
THE FINAL SEGMENT OF THE HIGHWAY 60 4-LANE EXPANSION IS ON SCHEDULE FOR COMPLETION NEXT YEAR. D-O-T OFFICIALS GAVE AN UPDATE DURING A RECENT MEETING OF THE HIGHWAY 60 ACTION CORPORATION. AT THIS POINT, THE WORK IS 55% COMPLETE ON THE SEGMENT FROM WINDOM TO MT LAKE. THE NEW LANES WILL BE PAVED NEXT YEAR, AND TRAFFIC WILL BE SHIFTED TO THE NEW LANES WHILE THE EXISTING LANES RECEIVE AN OVERLAY. THE ENTIRE PROJECT SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY MID-OCTOBER OF 2018, WEATHER PERMITTING.
