THE DES MOINES VALLEY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY WILL HOLD A BOARD MEETING AT 9:00 THIS MORNING IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM AT THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER IN WINDOM.  THE BOARD WILL GO INTO CLOSED SESSOIN TO CONDUCT THE ANNUAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.  EMPLOYEES WITH MULTIPLE YEARS OF SERVICE WILL BE RECOGNIZED.  A NEW COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR WILL BE APPOINTED. 
THE WINDOM E-D-A HELD A BOARD MEETING THIS WEEK.   PRO-SHED HAS APPROACHED THE E-D-A ABOUT LEASING SOME PROPERTY IN THE RIVER BEND AREA TO DISPLAY ITS PRODUCTS.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE EAST HIGHWAY 60 HOTEL PROJECT.  THE FINANCING IS IN PLACE, AND WORK ON THE SITE IS UNDERWAY.  THE GOAL IS TO HAVE THE NEW HOTEL READY TO OPEN BY MAY OF 2018.  THE E-D-A BOARD REVIEWED MORE RESULTS FROM A RETAIL AND CONSUMER BUSINESS STUDY.  THE STUDY SHOWED SHOPPING PATTERNS FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS, INCLUDING WHETHER THEY BUY PRODUCTS AND SERVICES LOCALLY, OUT OF TOWN, OR ON-LINE. 
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK.    STUDENT ELLA SMITH GAVE A PRESENTATION ON A NEW MILK CARTON RECYCLING PROGRAM.  INFORMATION WAS PRESENTED ON A STUDY OF LEAD LEVELS IN DRINKING WATER.  THE FIXTURES WERE REPLACED ON ONE SINK IN THE HIGHLAND BUILDING.  A RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED IN SUPPORT OF THE USE OF SCHOOL TRUST LANDS.  THE BOARD ADOPTED RESOLUTIONS, CALLING ON THE STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE FULL FUNDING FOR SPECIAL-EDUCATION PROGRAMS. 
A JUNIOR HIGH KNOWLEDGE BOWL MEET WAS HELD THIS WEEK IN JACKSON.   THERE WERE 10 TEAMS INVOLVED FROM FOUR AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS.  A TEAM FROM JACKSON COUNTY CENTRAL TOOK 1ST PLACE.  IN 2ND WAS THE MT LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL ‘JADE’ TEAM.  THE MT LAKE ‘EMERALD’ TEAM WAS 3RD.  IN 4TH PLACE WAS A TEAM FROM MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL.   ANOTHER TEAM FROM JACKSON COUNTY CENTRAL WAS 5TH.  WINDOM HAD THREE TEAMS IN THE MEET, FINISHING IN 8TH, 9TH AND 10TH PLACE.  A SUB-REGIONAL MEET WILL BE HELD NEXT WEEK.
TWO STUDENTS FROM THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL RECENTLY RECEIVED AWARDS IN A REGIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST.   THE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION IS SPONSORED BY THE SOUTHWEST-WEST CENTRAL SERVICE COOPERATIVE.  AMONG THE AWARDS PRESENTED, CARTER JAMES, A SENIOR AT MT LAKE CHRISTIAN, TOOK 1ST PLACE IN THE CATEGORY OF “NATURE AND LANDSCAPE.”  ZADOK FORD, A SOPHOMORE, RECEIVED A 3RD-PLACE AWARD IN THE CATEGORY, “ELEMENTS OF DESIGN.” 
  
IT’S TIME FOR A WINDOM HOLIDAY TRADITION.    BUCKWHEAT JOHNSON OF B-J VIDEO PRODUCTIONS WILL BE PREPARING HIS ANNUAL VIDEO OF HOLIDAY LIGHTS AND DECORATIONS IN THE WINDOM AREA.  WEATHER PERMITTING, JOHNSON WILL BE DRIVING AROUND WINDOM ON SATURDAY EVENING.  IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR HOME INCLUDED ON THE VIDEO, HAVE YOUR DECORATIONS UP AND YOUR LIGHTS TURNED ON SATURDAY EVENING.  THE VIDEO WILL BE SHOWN ON WINDOM-NET CABLE T-V CHANNEL 3 AT VARIOUS TIMES OVER THE HOLIDAYS.
