LET’S CHECK SOME OF THE SPECIAL EVENTS TAKING PLACE IN NOVEMBER.    SATURDAY IS DIABETES AWARENESS DAY AT HY VEE IN WINDOM.  THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL MEETING ON SUNDAY.  THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN WINDOM WILL HOLD A HARVEST FESTIVAL ON SUNDAY.   WINDOM AREA HIGH SCHOOL WILL HOST THE BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE CHORAL FESTIVAL ON MONDAY, INCLUDING AN EVENING PERFORMANCE.  VETERANS DAY PROGRAMS WILL BE HELD IN MT LAKE ON NOVEMBER 9TH, AND IN WINDOM ON NOVEMBER 10TH.  PASTOR DEWEY MOEDE WILL LEAD A REVIVAL SERVICE IN WINDOM NOVEMBER 10TH AND 11TH
THE WINDOM CITY UTILITY COMMISSION WILL MEET AT 5:30 THIS AFTERNOON.  THIS WILL BE A JOINT MEETING WITH THE WINDOM CITY PERSONNEL COMMITTEE.  THE TWO GROUPS WILL DISCUSS THE MANAGEMENT OF THE CITY ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT.  ELECTRIC UTILITY MANAGER BRENT BROWN WAS TERMINATED FROM HIS POSITION LAST WEEK AFTER A SPECIAL DISCIPLINARY HEARING HELD BY THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL.  THE UTILITY COMMISSION AND PERSONNEL COMMITTEE ARE EXPECTED TO DISCUSS HOW THE POSITION SHOULD BE FILLED.       
THE WINDOM SCHOOL DISTRICT TASK FORCE MEETS TODAY.   THE TASK FORCE WAS FORMED TO STUDY FACILITY ISSUES AND DEVELOP A RECOMMENDATION FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD.  AT TONIGHT’S MEETING, THE FOCUS WILL BE ON FACILITY OPTIONS AND POTENTIAL COSTS FOR PRE-SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY GRADES.  POSSIBLE OPTIONS INCLUDE REMODELING THE WINFAIR ELEMENTARY BUILDING, OR CONSTRUCTING A NEW BUILDING.  THE TASK FORCE WILL ALSO DISCUSS WHAT GRADE LEVELS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN A NEW OR REMODELED BUILDING.
THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IS HOLDING ITS ANNUAL BORSCHT SUPPER THIS WEEK.    THE EVENT WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAY FROM 4:30 UNTIL 8:00PM AT THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL BUILDING, AT 710- 11TH STREET NORTH IN MT LAKE.  THIS IS AN ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT MEAL WITH BORSCHT, HOMEMADE BREAD AND PIE.  IT’S $8 FOR ADULTS, $4 FOR STUDENTS; PRE-SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN EAT FOR FREE.  THERE WILL ALSO BE A MIDDLE-SCHOOL BAKE SALE.  QUARTS AND GALLONS OF BORSCHT WILL BE AVAILABLE TO TAKE HOME.  ALL FUNDS RAISED GO TOWARD THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND.
A PROGRAM TO HELP PEOPLE SIGN UP FOR MEDICARE WILL BE HELD IN WESTBROOK.    TRAINED VOLUNTEERS WILL BE AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT AT THE WESTBROOK PUBLIC LIBRARY ON FRIDAY.  TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, CALL THE SENIOR LINKAGE LINE AT 1-800-333-2433.  THE 2018 ANNUAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD FOR MEDICAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLANS AND MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS RUNS THROUGH DECEMBER 7TH.  CURRENT MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES SHOULD BRING THEIR INSURANCE INFORMATION, THEIR MEDICARE CARD AND A LIST OF CURRENT MEDICATIONS.
                                        
THE MT LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS HOLDING AN ELECTION THIS FALL.     A SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY FROM 4:00 UNTIL 8:00.  VOTING WILL BE IN ROOM #1 AT THE MT LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL BUILDING.  THERE ARE THREE SEATS UP FOR ELECTION, EACH FOR A 4-YEAR TERM.  FOUR CANDIDATES ARE LISTED ON THE BALLOT:  INCUMBENT MATT GOHR AND CHALLENGERS DAVE BUCKLIN, CAROLYN KARSCHNIK AND AUDI W. NICKEL.  TWO INCUMBENTS DID NOT RUN FOR RE-ELECTION.  THE MT LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT INCLUDES THE CITY OF MT LAKE AND THE TOWNSHIPS OF CARSON, DELTON, LAKESIDE, MIDWAY, MOUNTAIN LAKE, SELMA, ODIN AND KIMBALL.
