THE WINDOM E-D-A WILL HOLD A BOARD MEETING TODAY.   THERE WILL BE UPDATES ON A NUMBER OF PROJECTS, INCLUDING THE HOTEL PROJECT ON EAST HIGHWAY 60; THE PROPOSED LAND RECLAMATION PROJECT AT THE CURRENT SITE OF THE CEMSTONE PLANT; THE PROPOSED PHASE II EXPANSION OF THE NORTH WINDOM INDUSTRIAL PARK; AND NEW SIGNAGE TO PROMOTE THE DOWNTOWN SQUARE.  THE E-D-A WILL ALSO CONSIDER AN APPLICATION FOR A BUSINESS LOAN, AND DISCUSS A RETAIL SURVEY.
THE MT LAKE SCHOOL BOARD HOLDS A SPECIAL MEETING TODAY.     THE BOARD WILL MEET AT 5:00 IN ROOM #1 AT THE MT LAKE PUBLIC SCHOOL BUILDING.  BOARD MEMBERS WILL OFFICIALLY CANVASS THE RESULTS OF LAST WEEK’S SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS.  THERE WERE THREE SEATS ON THE BOARD UP FOR ELECTION, EACH FOR A 4-YEAR TERM.  UNOFFICIAL RESULTS HAD INCUMBENT MATT GOHR RECEIVING 2011 VOTES.  ALSO ELECTED WERE DAVE BUCKLIN WITH 207 VOTES AND AUDI NICKEL WITH 171 VOTES.   ELECTION-NIGHT TOTALS HAD 345 VOTES BEING CAST, INCLUDING 170 WRITE-IN VOTES.
 FREE CLASSES ARE BEING OFFERED TO HELP PEOPLE SIGN UP FOR MEDICARE.   THE MINNESOTA RIVER AREA AGENCY ON AGING IS SPONSORING THE CLASSES AT ITS OFFICE IN SLAYTON.  THERE WILL BE SESSIONS TODAY AND NEXT MONDAY, AT 3:30 IN THE AFTERNOON.  PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN THE BASICS OF MEDICARE, INCLUDING COVERAGE OPTIONS, AND HOW TO USE THE MEDICARE WEBSITE TO RESEARCH YOUR OPTIONS BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR MEDICARE.  TO REGISTER, CALL THE SENIOR LINKAGE LINE AT 1-800-333-2433. 
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD HELD A REGULAR MEETING LAST WEEK.  A CHANGE WAS APPROVED IN THE SCHOOL CALENDAR TO MOVE A STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY.  THE BOARD APPROVED A MEMO ON THE PROPOSED “CUT-OUT” AREA IN FRONT OF WINFAIR ELEMENTARY.  THE PROJECT WOULD CREATE A NEW PARKING AREA WHERE VEHICLES COULD PULL OFF THE STREET TO PICK UP OR DROP OFF STUDENTS.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE COMMUNITY-BASED TASK FORCE.  A FUND TRANSFER WAS APPROVED FOR ACCOUNTING PURPOSES.
THE WINDOM CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MET LAST WEEK.   THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE FRIENDS OF THE POOL COMMITTEE.  A REPORT WAS PRESENTED ON THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ICE-MAKING EQUIPMENT AT THE ARENA.  AN ENGINEERING FIRM IS PREPARING PLANS AND SPECS, WHICH WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL AT A FUTURE MEETING.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON EFFORTS TO HIRE A NEW PARKS SUPERINTENDENT.    THE STAFF AT THE ARENA IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE SMALL STUDIO RINK.
THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS HELD A REGULAR MEETING LAST WEEK.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE CREATION OF A NEW POSITION FOR A JAIL AND DISPATCH SUPERVISOR.  A JOB DESCRIPTION WAS APPROVED.  A CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT WAS APPROVED FOR A VEHICLE SALES BUSINESS IN PETERSBURG TOWNSHIP.  THE BOARD APPROVED A COST-OF-LIVING ADJUSTMENT OF 2½-PERCENT FOR NON-UNION EMPLOYEES.  THE BOARD APPROVED A REVISED COUNTY INVESTMENT POLICY.
