THE MT LAKE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAS OPENINGS FOR NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS.  AT THIS TIME, THE CHAMBER HAS TWO OPENINGS ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.  ANY INDIVIDUAL OR BUSINESS MEMBER IS ELIGIBLE TO SERVE ON THE BOARD.  THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OVERSEES ALL CHAMBER ACTIVITIES.  THE MT LAKE CHAMBER ALSO HAS 11 COMMITTEES, WHO WORK ON VARIOUS EVENTS INCLUDING POW-WOW.  MORE COMMITTEE MEMBERS ARE NEEDED. 
 
KDOM RADIO IS REVIEWING THE TOP NEWS STORIES OF 2017.  IN JULY, GOOD BUSINESS WAS REPORTED AT THE RIVERBEND LIQUOR STORE IN WINDOM FOR THE FIRST SUNDAY THAT OFF-SALE OF LIQUOR WAS ALLOWED UNDER A NEW STATE LAW.  THE HERON LAKE CITY COUNCIL MET WITH THE COUNTY HIGHWAY ENGINEER TO DISCUSS SAFETY CONCERNS AT THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 60 AND COUNTY ROAD 9.  POET BIOREFINING IN BINGHAM LAKE CELEBRATED ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY WITH AN OPEN HOUSE.  TABITHA GARLOFF WAS HIRED AS AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT IN MT LAKE.  A DEDICATION CEREMONY WAS HELD FOR THE BREWSTER VETERANS’ MEMORIAL.  THE WINDOM SCHOOL DISTRICT HELD A PUBLIC SALE FOR USED I-PAD MINI UNITS.  THE WESTBROOK-WALNUT GROVE SCHOOL BOARD VOTED TO HOLD AN OPERATING LEVY REFERENDUM IN THE FALL.  THE RED ROCK CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT REACHED A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT TO SELL THE FORMER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUILDING IN JEFFERS TO A ST. PETER COUPLE.  FORMER ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ WINNER TRENT HARMON PERFORMED AT THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR. 
 
KDOM RADIO IS REVIEWING THE TOP NEWS STORIES OF 2017.  IN AUGUST,  A DETOUR WENT INTO PLACE FOR A PAVING PROJECT ON COUNTY ROAD 1 NORTH OF MT LAKE.  THE MT LAKE SCHOOL BOARD APPROVED THE HIRING OF A NEW ARCHITECT AND A CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT FIRM TO WORK ON A PROPOSED BUILDING REMODELING AND RENOVATION PROJECT.  A 4.7-MILLION DOLLAR BUILDING REFERENDUM WAS APPROVED IN THE MURRAY COUNTY CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT.  WINDOM ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF KEVIN PATTERSON ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT.  KRISTI MEYERAAN WAS HIRED AS THE ASSISTANT COUNTY ATTORNEY IN COTTONWOOD COUNTY.  WINDOM NATIVE HEATHER VAN NORMAN WAS INDUCTED INTO THE STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME.  LOCAL RESIDENTS WERE DISAPPOINTED WHEN THEY WERE UNABLE TO VIEW THE SOLAR ECLIPSE DUE TO CLOUDS AND LIGHT RAIN.  THE WINDOM AREA HOSPITAL BOARD VOTED TO MOVE AHEAD WITH THE CREATION OF A NEW WOUND-CARE CENTER.  THE MT LAKE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ANNOUNCED IT WAS MOVING THE START OF ITS SCHOOL YEAR BACK ONE WEEK IN ORDER TO COMPLETE A REMODELING PROJECT.
