IT’S TIME FOR A WINDOM HOLIDAY TRADITION.    BUCKWHEAT JOHNSON OF B-J VIDEO PRODUCTIONS WILL BE PREPARING HIS ANNUAL VIDEO OF HOLIDAY LIGHTS AND DECORATIONS IN THE WINDOM AREA.  WEATHER PERMITTING, JOHNSON WILL BE DRIVING AROUND WINDOM ON SATURDAY EVENING.  IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR HOME INCLUDED ON THE VIDEO, HAVE YOUR DECORATIONS UP AND YOUR LIGHTS TURNED ON SATURDAY EVENING.  THE VIDEO WILL BE SHOWN ON WINDOM-NET CABLE T-V CHANNEL 3 AT VARIOUS TIMES OVER THE HOLIDAYS. 
THE WINDOM CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MET THIS WEEK.   THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE FRIENDS OF THE POOL GROUP.   FURTHER DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON IMPROVEMENTS TO THE WINDOM CITY ARENA.  PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PROJECT WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE WINDOM CITY COUNCIL AT NEXT WEEK’S MEETING.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON PLANS FOR ICE SKATING AND OPEN HOCKEY DURING THE HOLIDAYS.  THE COMMISSION ALSO DISCUSSED SEVERAL MEMBERS WHO WILL BE LEAVING AT THE END OF THE YEAR.
THE WINDOM E-D-A HELD A BOARD MEETING THIS WEEK.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE LAND RECLAMATION PROJIECT.  CEMSTONE IS STILL CONSIDERING POSSIBLE LOCATIONS FOR A NEW PLANT IN THE WINDOM AREA.  THE BOARD HAS VOTED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE PHASE II EXPANSION OF THE NORTH WINDOM INDUSTRIAL PARK, USING PROCEEDS FROM A “TIF” BOND TO PURCHASE ANOTHER 80 ACRES OF LAND.  THE BOARD ALSO DISCUSSED OPTIONS FOR RETAIL DEVELOPMENT IN THE SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA AND NORTHWEST IOWA AREA.       
THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD MET THIS WEEK.     THE BOARD DISCUSSED A FINANCIAL INCENTIVE FOR EMPLOYEES WHO GIVE EARLY NOTICE OF RESIGNATIONS.  THE MEASURE WAS APPROVED.  A NUMBER OF PERSONNEL ITEMS WERE HANDLED DURING THE CONSENT AGENDA.   DONATIONS TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WERE ACCEPTED.   THERE WAS A DISCUSSION ON STAFFING NEEDS FOR NEXT YEAR.  IT APPEARS THERE WILL BE FOUR SECTIONS OF 6TH GRADE, SO ANOTHER TEACHER WILL NEED TO BE HIRED.  OTHER ISSUES INCLUDE SPECIAL-EDUCATION NEEDS. 
SANTA’S WORKSHOP WILL BE OPEN IN WINDOM ON SATURDAY MORNING FROM 9:00 UNTIL NOON IN THE CAFETERIA AT THE WINFAIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.   ALL LOCAL CHILDREN ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.  THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SHOP FOR GIFTS FOR THEIR FAMILY; ALL ITEMS ARE UNDER $5.    THE WORKSHOP IS SPONSORED BY THE WINDOM AREA GIRL SCOUTS.  PROCEEDS WILL BE DONATED TO CHARITY.  IF YOU ARE ATTENDING, PLEASE BRING A NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEM FOR THE LOCAL FOOD SHELF. 
THE WINDOM STATE THEATRE IS OFFERING A SERIES OF FREE MATINEE MOVIES FOR CHILDREN DURING THE HOLIDAYS.    MOVIES WILL BE SHOWN AT 1:00 THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.  TICKETS FOR A FREE MOVIE MAY BE PICKED UP AT ONE OF THE PARTICIPATING BUSINESSES IN WINDOM, BINGHAM LAKE, MT LAKE AND JEFFERS.  THIS WEEK’S FREE MOVIE IS “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”  PARENTS MAY DROP OFF THEIR CHILDREN AT THE THEATRE, AND USE THE TIME TO COMPLETE THEIR HOLIDAY SHOPPING.
